Aiden's First Field Trip

Last Monday, Aiden had his very first field to the firehouse.  I was lucky Patrick was able to work his schedule so he could take Aubrey up to her doctor's appointment and I could go with Aiden. (Sometimes it would be really nice if a mom could split herself into 2!)

Aiden was pretty excited about this trip, but I think he had a hard time understanding why he wasn't riding a bus to the firehouse.  It's only 2 blocks from the school so the kids walked. It worked out because the trip ended up being free!

They had everything fire related you could think of! The kids saw things that had been burned up in a fire, they had a demo machine where they could practice calling 911 (and I learned that we need to start practicing our phone number and address again).  They got to learn about and go into a firetruck, police car, and a tractor trailer.  He even let the kids honk the trucks honk to try and compete with the loudness of the police siren that kept going off.  They got to go into a "smoke house" to simulate what to do if they were in a building filled with smoke and watch a movie with popcorn! One of the big highlights was shooting water out of a real fire hose.  After seeing how amped up that made some of the kids, I'm sure their teachers were glad they kept that for last!

Overall, Aiden learned a lot and I had a great time spending the morning with him.  He even picked our meeting place if we ever have a fire here. (I know, we probably should have had one already, but we didn't.)

Getting anxious about having to "call" 911 in front of everyone
Talking to 911 for practice
Climbing the ladder to get out of the smoke house
Climbing down the ladder
Climbing ladders is hard work
Learning about what firemen wear
Sitting inside the firetruck

Those police sirens are loud!!
Climbing into the tractor trailer
He took honking the horn very seriously!
Dear Lord, Please let this be the only time he's climbing out of the back of a police car!
Waiting in line to squirt the hose!
Listening to what to do
Shooting the fire hose!
Probably the best part of the trip
So happy after squirting the hose

WW: Happy Fall!

This past Saturday we decided to take the kids up to Fifer's for their annual Fall Fest.  We've gone the past couple of years and the kids love it.  In the past we were able to go during the week since Aiden was home, but now that he's in school we have to do what everyone else does and wait for the weekend.  And boy, did people wait for the weekend! It was crowded! I've never been there when there were so many people! Luckily everything moved right along and the only thing we had to wait for was for Aiden to ride the zip line. And to see how excited he was about riding that made the wait worth it!

Here are some pictures from our day...

This went very wrong for Emma. After this she made Patrick go with her for her next trip down.

Waiting for the zip line
When Aiden gets excited, he tries to hold it in, but see those fingers wiggling? That's what he does when he excited and holding it in. :-)

Someone was trying to smuggle out the corn

As you can see, we had a great time. The only thing I would change? It was about 82 degrees...yeah, not very fall like, but we still had lots of fun!

Aubrey's 2 Month Stats

Miss Aubrey went to the doctor on Monday for her 2 month well visit.  Again, she looks perfect and is plumping up quite nicely. :-)

She is getting to be so big! She's still eating 4 oz of formula about every 3-4 hours, but sometimes it could be 4-5 hours.  It really depends on what she's doing.  We've started adding a scoop of rice cereal to each bottle to help with the spitting up. I think that definitely helps to spread some of her feedings out.  She's actually slept  through the night for about a week straight and then got up around 5 one more to eat and again another night to eat.  I think she likes to tease us.  Her new favorite spot to nap is in the swing. She'll take a long afternoon nap in there and then again at bedtime (until we're ready to go upstairs).

I have to admit that I've been slacking on tummy time because...well, she hates it.  I know, most babies aren't too fond of it there for awhile, but I just feel like it's torture to them. Plus? She can hold her head up for awhile now if you're holding her, so I'm really not too concerned.  I'll just keep up with my doing it here and there for now.

Those sweet gummy smiles happen all the time and every time I see one I still get a big cheesy grin on my face.  And?? She's started to giggle. Yup, it sounds as sweet as you might think it does.  (Nope, she still hasn't let me catch it on film yet.)  One night I was tickling her chubby little neck and she started laughing. :-) Now if you clap her hands, she'll laugh.  Oh to be so easily entertained!

I just can't believe how fast time is flying!

Stats:
Weight:  12 lbs 7 oz (82nd percentile)
Height:  24.02 in (94th percentile)
Head Circumference: 15.55 in (62nd percentile)

Things I've Learned...

...since having Baby #3.

1.  You will be able to split your love and attention into 3 ways.  (I was worried in the end of my pregnancy about how in the world I would be able to split my love and attention 3 ways with adding another kid to the mix.  Don't get me wrong, I knew I would absolutely love and adore Aubrey, but before she came we only had 2 little ones.  If the need be, my husband and I had a man on man situation going on.  With 3 we would be out numbered.  You just make it work and it's like the third baby has always been around.)

2.  You will never do so much laundry in your life.  Seriously! I like to stay on top of the laundry because Mommy only has so many outfits that fit her these days.  I used to be able to get away with just picking one day and doing it all day long.  Now? Heck no.  I'm doing at least one load every other day!

3.  Sleep when the baby is sleeping is a load of crap.  This might work for the parents that only have one child, but not for those of us who have a 2 year old running around.  Yes, my 2 year old still takes a nap (most days), but that's Mommy's free time and there's no way I'm giving that up to sleeping! Well, that and that's when Aubrey decides that she wants to be fed, held, or just be fussy.

4.  My kids are amazing!  I knew Aiden would be a great big brother because he already was to Emma.  I was worried about Emma becoming a big sister, however, because she tends to get a little jealous of Aiden if we're giving him snuggles and not her.  They both have adjusted to Aubrey's arrival so well and are both madly in love with her.  No jealousy issues thus far!! They do argue about who's going to hold Aubrey first, though. :-)

5.  Post pregnancy images in movies are bull.  In movies when girls have a baby they go home from the hospital looking fabulous with flat bellies.  In real life? Psh! Not even close!  I, of course, already knew this being it was baby #3, but I still hoped a miracle would happen.  It didn't.  Guess it's time to stop eating like crap.

6.  Your sweet little baby will be snoozing away...until she or he hears you preparing to cook dinner or smells your lunch.  I swear to you, Aubrey is napping every day when I'm ready to eat my lunch.  Then just as I go out to make it, she decides to wake up and she wants to eat first. Every. Time! And preparing dinner, yeah that's her favorite time to get fussy and want to be held.

7.  Babies refuse to smile every time you grab the camera!! Aubrey has started with the big gummy grins and they are adorable! The problem is that every time you grab the camera...she stops and just stares the camera down.  I've tried with both, my phone and my camera and she doesn't care, she's not having it.  One of these days, I will catch it head on!!

8. One of the sweetest sounds in the world is your little baby's first out loud giggles.  If that doesn't melt your heart, something is wrong with ya! The other day, I was tickling Aubrey's neck and she started laughing. Best. Sound. Ever.
